Bug#213543: dpkg: SEGVs if runs out of disk space

Package: dpkg
Version: 1.9.21
Severity: important

Hi,

Whilst using dselect (apt method) to upgrade an old machine with
little disk, I ran out of disk space, and noticed that dpkg SEGVd (log
below). This strikes me as very bad behaviour...

Preparing to replace time 1.7-9 (using .../t/time/time_1.7-11_i386.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing /ming/pool/main/t/time/time_1.7-11_i386.deb (--unpack):
failed to write status record about `plum' to `/var/lib/dpkg/status':
No space left on device
dpkg: error while cleaning up:
unable to flush updated status of `time': Bad file descriptor
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg recieved a segmentation fault.

Regards,

Matthew
