Package: dpkg
Version: 1.9.18
Severity: important

Cause is probably this changelog entry:

>dpkg (1.9.18) unstable; urgency=low
>
> * Fix MD5Sum corruption when upgrading a package. Closes: Bug#113961.
> * Add Wichert and I to debian/control:Uploaders.
>
> -- Adam Heath <doogie@debian.org> Sat, 3 Nov 2001 00:31:00 -0600

Symptom: dpkg completely ignores the md5sum in /var/lib/dpkg/status, and will
not ever ask about conffile changes.
