Subject: dpkg: install-info dumps core
To: submit@bugs.debian.org
X-Mailer: bug 3.1.5

Package: dpkg
Version: 1.4.0.23.2

Hello,

When I tried to upgrade bash it bombed with:

Preparing to replace bash 2.01.1-3 (using bash_2.01.1-3.1.deb) ...
/var/lib/dpkg/info/bash.prerm: line 3: 738 Segmentation fault (core dumped) install-info --quiet --remove bash
dpkg: warning - old pre-removal script returned error exit status 139
dpkg - trying script from the new package instead ...
install-info: failed to lock dir for editing! File exists
try deleting /usr/info/dir.lock ?
dpkg: error processing bash_2.01.1-3.1.deb (--unpack):
subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 17
install-info: failed to lock dir for editing! File exists
try deleting /usr/info/dir.lock ?
dpkg: error while cleaning up:

I found (and kept) the core file of install-info. Would you be instested
in it?

Thanks,

--Amos
