Subject: dpkg -l needs a 'force tty width' cli option
X-Reportbug-Version: 0.48
X-Mailer: reportbug 0.48

Message-Id: <E12NTN8-000778-00@sanctum>

Package: dpkg
Version: 1.6.9
Severity: wishlist

It's nice that dpkg -l adapts to the tty width now (last source I
checked was 1.6.7, which didn't have it)

But it would be even better if one could somehow tell it to
assume a certain width (for use in scripts)

And while I'm at it: it would be even more better (;-) if I
could just tell it to leave out the header.

Bye, J

PS: yes, I know I should use libapt-pkg for what I want to do... but digging
into the docs of that (what docs) is a lot more work than using dpkg -l (the
structure of which at least is obvious, w/ or w/o docs). Hopefully,
python-apt will improve this...
