You should see what happens when we talk about releasing the Hurd :)

This sounds like my patch would still be useful, for 1.10.
If you look at it, you will see that it only makes changes
to the code if it runs on the GNU system.  It would be nice if
you could include it in 1.10, while we are having a closer
look at dpkg-dev.
