Hi,

I've got this libncurses5-dev_5.0-6.0potato1.deb file
that I need to use on my system which runs on RedHat
6.2.

I installed "dpkg" successfully but when I enter the
command:

#dpkg -i libncurses5-dev_5.0-6.0potato1.deb

I get the following error message:

dpkg: failed to open package info file
/var/lib/dpkg/status

I guess this file is supposed to be a part of a Debian
system which probably keeps track of the status of the
installed packages. But since I'm on RedHat...there's
no such file.

I've a feeling (err..no I'm sure!!) this is an
elementary question and I'm also not too certain if
this is the correct list to ask this question, but
could someone please let me know how I could go about
using *.deb files on a RedHat system?

Thanks in advance!
Supriyo
