I talked to gecko about it directly, but never got around to filing a bug.
According to the new lintian "mini-policy" on overrides, they should not
be used to cover bugs in lintian, only to legitmize real differences
between policy and you package, if it is warranted. Obviously, this is a
case of policy, since it specifically says that non-versioned depends on
essential packages, is a no-no.
