Bug#33618: Severity: Important

Subject: dpkg: most recent hamm version, but *multiple* packages insist it be upgraded!
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.4.0.23.2

Yesterday, mailx refused to install because of this same problem. Today, it
is svgalib-bin that complains. The following is the text of the session.

Unpacking svgalib-bin (from svgalib-bin_1.3.0-0.3.deb) ...

You must upgrade dpkg before installing this package.

dpkg: error processing svgalib-bin_1.3.0-0.3.deb (--unpack):
subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 svgalib-bin_1.3.0-0.3.deb
E: Sub-process returned an error code
Some errors occured while unpacking. I'm going to configure the
packages that were installed. This may result in duplicate errors
or errors caused by missing dependencies. This is OK, only the errors
above this message are important. Please fix them and run [I]nstall again
