Bug#27128: Request for dpkg -D4 semantics
Package: dpkg
Version: 1.4.0.27
Severity: wishlist
Given the trouble people have with {pre, pos}{inst,rm} scripts, it would be
*very* handy to be able to watch those scripts getting executed.
I'd like to be able to pass -x to the shell that executes them,
or some similar debugging measure.
I notice that the -D4 flag, reserved for a more verbose version
of -D2 (scripts), seems ready-made for the purpose.
As an installer of packages, I'd even like a convenient way to
*pause* and *edit* failed scripts, but that might be asking a bit
much for a non-interactive tool. (Hitting ^Z at *just* the right moment
is a pain.)
