Hello,

If 'CONCURRENCY=makefile' is default I think it's obvious that it should
be mentioned, but I think it's also worth mentioning as a possibility
for admins to experiment with, something like (immediately following the
dependency based boot):

---
The dependency based booting also allows starting services in parallel,
which under circumstances can improve the boot speed. In order to enable
it the line:

CONCURRENCY=makefile

has to be added to /etc/default/rcS.

This feature has not been enabled for squeeze because it can prevent
some daemons from starting in specific configurations or, in some very
rare cases, even make the entire system unbootable.
---

Regards,
Andrei

Actually, the d-d-a mail claims that the parallel booting is enabled by
default when it is currently not (see /usr/share/doc/insserv/README.Debian).

If I recall correctly, only dependency-based boot is implemented both in new
installs and in upgrades.

I have updated the Release Notes to add a section describing the
dependency-based boot process:
http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/ddp/manuals/trunk/release-notes/en/whats-new.dbk?r1=7742&r2=7765

I am closing this but, if you feel the above text is insufficient or needs
improvement please reopen.

Regards

Javier
