main, contrib and non-free - category or section?

Hi,

 In Debian Policy, main, contrib and non-free are explained as "categories".

 http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-subsections

 But Developers Reference, they are called as "Sections"
 http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/developers-reference/ch-resources.en.html#s-archive-sections

 So, I'll ask you... which is correct?
