Shouldn't they do upgrades? [...] We kept building an amd64 flavour for i386 until after the jessie release (specifically version 4.0.2-1). Those users won't need to add amd64 as a foreign architecture until they upgrade to stretch. That might be worth pointing out in the release notes.
