But that does not help here.

Steve was saying:
  that's not so useful on a remote server installation where
  there's no desktop for the system to show a pop-up or similar.
and
  We're *definitely* going to do it for cloud images

Any "solution" for the reboot problem that assumes that there is a user 
who regularly logs into the machine misses the problem.
