Bug#832546: ITP: kyklop -- Finds, tracks, and characterizes tropical cyclones in climate simulation data

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Klaus Zimmermann <klaus_zimmermann@gmx.de>

* Package name    : kyklop
  Version         : 0.1.1
  Upstream Author : Klaus Zimmermann <klaus_zimmermann@gmx.de>

  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : Finds, tracks, and characterizes tropical cyclones in climate simulation data

 Kyklop analyses the output of climate models to examine tropical cyclones.
 At the moment it is limited to analysis of RegCM[1] output.
 It can find tropical cyclones, perform tracking, that is connect cyclones in
 successive time steps to form tracks, and measure various properties, like
 like their maximal wind speed.
 This package provides the kyklop command line tool.

Kyklop solves an important problem in climate research.
A scientific publication featuring kyklop has been accepted.
Furthermore it is already in use by people outside of its originating group.

I have applied for membership of the Python Application Packaging Team (PAPT)
and hope to maintain the package within this team.
