retitle 808049 lists.debian.org: New list: debian-metadata@lists.debian.org
kthxbye

Hi All,

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cord ╡ irl: #808049 bring more supporters
------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've filed a request for a mailing list to support the Debian Data team,
although I guess I'm probably renaming the team to the Debian Metadata team
as we've changed almost everything else from debian-data to debian-metadata.

The Debian Metadata team produces the frameworks and runs the services that
make data about Debian available in a number of formats to make the data as
accessible as possible and to encourage its use both within Debian and in
external projects.

Currently this includes two experimental services: rdf.debian.net and
map.debian.net.

We're don't plan to dupliate any of the work done by UDD, but make the data
aggregated in UDD more accessible to users and developers. This means
publishing that data in JSON/JSONP, KML, RDF, iCalendar and any other format
that makes sense. There may be instances where it makes sense to augment the
published data with live data, for example mirror availability should
probably be live and not just a recent snapshot.

Having a mailing list would greatly help with co-ordination, so please hit
up the bug with a +1 if this is something you'd like to be involved in.
We're also hanging out in #debian-data on irc.debian.org if you'd like to
drop in for a chat (we might move to #debian-metadata but we'll leave a note
if we do).

If anyone will be at 32c3 and is interested to discuss any ideas, I will be
there, and I'll be happy to have a quick meeting with anyone who wants to
chat.

Thanks,
Iain.
