At a conference once happened to me that, after the official question
time, a Debian user approached me and told me something along the lines:
"I'm a Debian user, but I really have to tell you that package $foo
sucks in Debian, it's horribly outdated and unusable".

After briefly checking the status of the package in Debian with him and
quickly realizing that $foo's maintainer was either MIA or vary bad at
his maintenance tasks, I've explained the user the problem and how he
could help.

At the same time, I've been glad that particular user didn't conclude
that Debian sucks at maintaining packages just because the maintainer of
$foo did. Surely, I wouldn't have spent my time explaining to him what
was going on and how he could help, if he had approached me saying that
Debian sucks.

/me, in mystic mode.
