Completely irrelevant. The gnome-media package contains the mixer
application, but sound playback works without it.

It isn’t a dependency of gnome-core, thus it is not put on the first CD.
It will be installed by default if you use a network mirror (which is
strongly recommended) or a DVD installation.
Please don’t abuse reports against “general”.
