Strange; I've had exactly the reverse experience, as have a number of
people I know. apt-get demands that your entire system is consistent
(using, apparently, a slightly different definition of consistent to
dselect, judging empirically from comments by users of both), and fails
in confusing ways if it is not. When using the older acquisition methods
at least, dselect tolerates some inconsistency.
