Is /etc/ld.so.cache up to date? If not, try ldconfig (which updates updates it). To see if /usr/X11R6/lib/ is included, do: $ sudo ldconfig -p | grep /usr/X11R6/lib/ If it shows any libraries, than it is included in /etc/ld.so.cache.
