This is a great idea!
First of all, we should definitely think on porting
SuSe's YAST to Debian (and .deb of course).
Only if not possible, then we should look at the
Mepis tools (Mepis is a Debian-based commercial
distro).
Only if there's nothing like we want or if it's not
worth the effort of a porting we should consider build
something from scratch.
I'm not exactly a decent coder,
but someone should care of documentation and UI
design, so you can count on me for it.
