After uncommenting the rtcfile line and restarting chrony, I get:

chronyc> rtcdata
RTC ref time (UTC) : Thu Jan 1 00:00:00 1970
Number of samples : 0
Number of runs : 0
Sample span period : 0
RTC is fast by : 0.000000 seconds
RTC gains time at : 0.000 ppm

and my daemon.log is filling up with messages:

Dec 14 10:09:36 pomme chronyd[32561]: Could not start measurement : Invalid argument
Dec 14 10:09:36 pomme chronyd[32561]: Could not read flags /dev/rtc : Invalid argument
Dec 14 10:09:36 pomme chronyd[32561]: Could not stop measurement : Invalid argument

I have CONFIG_RTC=m on an iBook.
