I certainly wouldn't recommend releasing sarge with a version of
PostgreSQL that was a year out of date. It's bad enough that woody
still has 7.2 in it.
Once 7.4 is in sid, packages that depend on postgresql should ideally be
rebuilt. I would be rather surprised if that would prove to be a
hold-up on release, considering the progress of the installer and the
non-reducing RC bug count.
In fact, I also want to get the new structure of postgresql packages
that I am working on into sarge, so as to avoid the recurrent database
upgrade problems we have had in the past. I consider this a very
important goal for the next release as far as the postgresql packages
are concerned.
