I don't know what its translation may be, but using the word "botching"
here is definitely an aggressive phrasing that implies holding a grudge.
How about this:
Dec 11 Debian skips to 1.1 after unofficial 1.0 release by Infomagic, 1995
(The word "ill-fated" seems to fit there too, but the result would be
too long.)
