In this case though, perhaps it's not so clear. If the message is left
intact, and someone perhaps does pay for the closed pro version of the
tools, it could encourage further development of cdrecord. As Tony
said, cdrecord becomes no less free if this message is left as is.
dvdrecord is also no less free with this message.

If you want to fork, it's probably best to do it in a productive
manner, such as contributing to the already existing dvdrecord fork.
We've already seen an absurd example of what pissing off upstream can
do in this past week, and I think every maintainer should take note of
it.
