IMHO, the main difference between Debian and RH supporting some
architecture is that RH's support includes actually producing packages
containing the distribution, having a hotline trained to answer
architecture-specific questions etc.
Ie., it does involve much more than just providing sufficient disk
space.
(And now all the debian port maintainers are going to kill me :-) )
