Hello
I did have a copy of libdb3.so.3 in my /lib dir and it was not a link to a
lib in /usr/lib. I deleted
it and it all works fine now.

The normal libdb3 installs its library in /usr/lib, not /lib. Have you
built it from source without versioned symbols?
