All that might be less confusing. Of course, the former has to be done anyway with the above proposal. I was initially for the removal of non-free, but if we go down this path (i.e. labelling clearly, don't ask user during install) along with perhaps some task-force which identifies and removes unnecessary non-free packages, I'm fine to leave non-free on the server for the time being.
