I do not know what version Junichi's autobuilder uses, and I have some
updates since I used it, but these are on my machine:

Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Installed/Config-files/Unpacked/Failed-config/Half-installed
|/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name           Version        Description
+++-==============-==============-============================================
ii tetex-extra 1.0.2+20011202 extra teTeX library files
ii tetex-bin 1.0.7+20011202 teTeX binary files
ii debhelper 4.0.2 helper programs for debian/rules
ii debiandoc-sgml 1.1.72 DebianDoc SGML DTD and formatting tools

sf@goofy:ec$ apt-cache policy tetex-extra
tetex-extra:
  Installed: 1.0.2+20011202-2
  Candidate: 1.0.2+20011202-2
  Package Pin: 1.0.2+20011202-2
  Version Table:
     1.0.2+20011202-3 1100
        800 http://http.us.debian.org testing/main Packages
         70 http://http.us.debian.org unstable/main Packages
 *** 1.0.2+20011202-2 1100
        500 http://http.us.debian.org stable/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

It looks like I was lazy but I thought Junichi uses testing or unstable to
build package. Oh, I have "TEXMFCNF=texmf/" set. In my texmf/texmf.cnf
contains:

texmf.cnf:TFMFONTS = .;{$TEXMF/fonts,$VARTEXFONTS}/tfm//
texmf.cnf:OFMFONTS = .;{$TEXMF/fonts,$VARTEXFONTS}/{ofm,tfm}//;$TFMFONTS

Is this problem?

I have :
Build-Depends-Indep: debhelper (>> 3.0.0), debiandoc-sgml(>= 1.1.67), tetex-bin, tetex-extra
