ttf fonts using gnome2?

When I try to use my ttf fonts (That work fine with gnome 1 apps) in
gnome 2 (font setup in its control center)

I get an error like this each time I pick a ttf font

** (gnome-control-center:28537): WARNING **: Cannot load font for XLFD
'-ttf-arial-medium-r-normal--15-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1

anyone know how to fix it?

I'm using xfstt
