cfortran.h file included in cfitsio-dev, cfitsio source package
Hello,
I am interested in packaging cfortran.h separately from the cfitsio-dev
package. (This is an offshoot of the work I'm currently doing on
packaging Cernlib, see bug # 150191).
If you have no problem with this, I have a few comments --
1) The original license of cfortran.h is non-free, so it should never have
been included in a free software package. I have contacted the upstream
author of cfortran, who has agreed to release it also under the Library
GPL.
2) The version of cfortran.h included in cfitsio-dev is out of date
(version 3.9, 1997) as opposed to the version available at
http://www-zeus.desy.de/~burow/cfortran/ (version 4.3, 2001) or at
http://wwwinfo.cern.ch/asd/cernlib/download/2002_source/tar/src_cfortran.tar.gz
(version 4.4, 2002).
3) If you are willing to make this change, here is my proposal:
a) I ITP and upload a "cfortran" package 4.4-1 that Conflicts: with
cfitsio-dev. (I'll need a sponsor since I'm not a Debian developer.)
b) Let me know what changes must be made to version 4.4 of cfortran.h to
allow cfitsio to compile using it. I then upload cfortran 4.4-2 with
those changes (and pass them on to upstream), changing the Conflicts: line
to Conflicts: cfitsio-dev (<< 2.401-2).
c) You could then upload a new cfitsio 2.401-2 source package that
Build-Depends: on cfortran (>= 4.4-2) and has cfitsio-dev
Depends: cfortran (>= 4.4-2). The new source package would build using
/usr/include/cfortran.h rather than the version included in the original
.tar.gz, and of course would not itself install /usr/include/cfortran.h.
Please let me know if you are amenable to this proposal. If this is too
much trouble for you, I can just do 3a) by myself.
Regards,
