Bug#161978: general: /usr/share as a symlink breaks EVERYTHING, but only sometimes

Package: general
Version: unavailable; reported 2002-09-22
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

Hey,
Nobody ever told me that I couldn't have /usr/share as a symlink. And sure
enough, my /usr partition ran out of space and I had plenty free on /var. So
what did (possibly stupid) me do? I moved /usr/share to /var/usr:share and
symlinked it up in /usr. Everything was working great for a few weeks. Then
one day, *some* package (probably a core one, but I have no idea what)
REMOVED my symlink and replaced it with a new directory entry. Of course,
that caused perl to break, which, in turn, caused everything else to fall
apart. :-( Is it possible for the debian system to be a bit more
symlink-friendly?

Slowly getting the hang of this...

 Thanks,
  Tyler
