Debian crashes Windows2000/IS 5.0
Dear all,
recently I have received the following email from the email administrator,
(see end), after he/she blocked my POP3 account.
He/she claims that I would crash their servers by receiving email with
malformed headers from the debian-devel mailing list. In the last sentence
they say they will take email access away from me if I continue being
subscribed to the Debian developer mailing list.
A netcraft research (www.netcraft.com) revealed that they use
Windows2000 / IS 5.0 / Firstclass v6 on the email servers.
When I rang them up to resolve the situation, they told me I would crash
their IS 5.0 everytime I check my mail or receive a "malformed mail" from the
debian mailing list. Now my mail program is set up the check every 5
minutes...
I found this very amusing and thought I would share it with you...
regards,

Hello Marc,
There have been a number of messages delivered to your Mailbox in the last
two days with malformed Subject: headers which has caused Internet Services
to crash a number of times when you have connected using a POP3 client. I
have moved the offending messages to a folder called Moved Messages.
As I have contacted you about this problem in June and as you are still
subscribed to the mailing list which is sending the posts, I have removed
POP3 access from your account. This means that you can only access your
e-mail using the FirstClass client.
If you wish to have POP3 access restored, you must unsubscribe from the
offending mailing list (i.e. debian-devel@lists.debian.org) and send a
message confirming that you have unsubscribed. If after restoring access
your POP3 connections continue to crash Internet Services for this server,
your POP3 access will be revoked for good.
