It's not really the status-quo, no one goes to much effort at all to
removed packages from the distro entirely: have a look at the last few
entries in update_excuses sometime.

     [...]
     * zope-worldpilot (- to 1.0.4-1)
          + Maintainer: Behan Webster
          + 823 days old (needed 10 days)
          + Valid candidate
     * mdate (- to 1.0.1-3)
          + Maintainer: Peter Crystal
          + 906 days old (needed 10 days)
          + mdate (source, alpha, arm, hppa, i386, ia64, m68k, mips,
            mipsel, powerpc, s390, sparc) is buggy! (1 > 0)
          + Not considered
     * alsaconf-0.4 (- to 0.4.2-5)
          + Maintainer: Masato Taruishi
          + 908 days old (needed 10 days)
          + alsaconf-0.4 (source, alpha, arm, hppa, i386, ia64, m68k,
            mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390, sparc) is buggy! (1 > 0)
          + Not considered

(mdate's bug is #143726, which is 149 days old, alsaconf-0.4's is #89844
at a year and 185 days old. zope-worldpilot needed to be updated for
some zope or python transition, and has never been)

Cheers,
aj

I don't speak for anyone save myself. GPG signed mail preferred.
