I've contacted some people, to see if anyone knows of any public domain, high quality true type fonts. Also pfaedit seems like it might be able to generate good truetype fonts, but it's hinting code needs some work. My main concern at this point is that it may be infeasible to generate high quality truetype fonts without using apple's patented truetype instructions (which is only a small subset of instructions, but they are commonly used in fonts).
