Then, if another developer is interested, they NMU it and/or take it
over. It would hardly be the first time this has happened. If somebody
is interested but isn't a developer, they can always take it over with
the aid of a sponsor.

Have you actually tried doing any Debian development, or are you just
raising theoretical objections?
