My first thought was very much along the same line as Andrew's; I would myself prefer having the password stored in a file (in ~root, I suppose), and have the location of that file be the actual debconf note. If you can be 100% positive that there is no database(say, from a previous packaged/non-packaged install of slapd), I guess I'll go back to my agnostic fence-sitting :) -- David B.
