I see it was closed as fixed. Nobody replied to the closing message (or
opened a new bug), so we can only assume that it is indeed fixed.
You said in the bug: "we need to find a way to at least reduce its impact by
making the default configuration a more benign one, or not installing gpm as
standard.". Well, if the bug is fixed, then there's no pressing reason to do
the latter.
