Bug#109393: general: Upgrade from Potato->Woody fails with complaints of 'libdb2.so.3' missing, and other dependency issues "libc6-dev, etc"

Package: general
Version: 20010820
Severity: normal

In an attempt to upgrade my box from Potato->Woody, the installation fails half-way through. Most (if not all) packages are downloaded via apt, and the config/reconfiguration process starts. Eventually, the process failed with a Perl error, referencing the inability to locate/load 'libdb2.so.3'. At this point, dependency issues were reported with 'libc6-dev, libstdc++2.10-dev, and libstd. I suspect that these may have just been the next packages to be upgraded, but failed due to the lack of the above library.

Numerous attempts with 'apt-get -f install' were unsuccessful, reporting other dependency issues.

Resolution: It appears that apt-get had pulled down the latest (2.7.7.8) version of libdb2. 'dpkg -i libdb2....' and 'libdb2-utils' allowed 'apt-get -y install' to proceed as required.

I'm not sure if the was the correct method, but my system is now up and running. Others have confirmed similar issues with libdb2 on #debian.
