I think that most people who think that Unicode is the be-all end-all
solution have heard those complaints. A lot of it amounts to familiarity
with one system over another. Few Westerners find appeal in a system that
distinguishes Japanese and Chinese, but not French, German and English.
Plane 14 tags will distinguish all languages in Unicode, if one choses to
use them.
