I must have done something wrong since I had to backport a whole
truckload of packages, including gettext, html2text, sed, sgml-base,
sgmltools-lite, some of which themselves build-depend on debhelper 3.
The debhelper package resulting from my efforts has a dependency on
debconf-utils which doesn't seem to exist on potato, and the resulting
debconf backport failed because I obviously goofed in gettext. make in
debconf's po subdirectory fails with a bunch of obscure error messages
from msgmerge ("invalid multibyte sequence").
msgmerge is a binary from gettext, and the gettext package behaves
significantly different when being built on potato: The package built
on potato has, for example, /usr/lib/libintl.so.1.0.1, while the same
sources build on sid don't have this library.
What am I missing? From what you're saying, building debhelper 3 on
potato shouldn't be _that_ hard!
Any hints will be appreciated.
Greetings
Marc
