Probably setting Dir::Bin::methods in the apt.conf file will
help. Also make sure, APT_CONF is set even when running dselect.
You can check your current apt configuration with "apt-config
dump"

Just make sure there is an apt dir in /usr/lib/dpkg/methods (or
wherever you changed that dir to).
