This idea isn't bad, and the script works cool. I am working on a wrapper to 
fortune, that displays tips every time you login. The only difference to 
fortune will be i18n-support, and that the number and file from which the tip 
is choosen, is also displayed. And that it is called "tip" instead of 
"fortune". I intendet to contain information about packages, too, but more in 
a form like: 

    If you don't like emacs, try nedit, a nice graphical editor. 

    Learning vi will let you have an editor, which you can use even through   
    7bit-serial lines, and which is installed on virtually every system. 

    Use user-de for having settings for german-speaking-users enabled.

Maybe you are interested in helping describing packages in this way? :)
