I had the same thing happen to me after a slink->potato upgrade, last
night. The weird thing was: I did the same upgrade to a similar machine
two days ago, and lpr exhibited no such weirdness.
Since you mentioned a verion number, I checked them, and they
differed. Downgrading lprng to -6 fixed things up.

P.S. And yes, I have a 2.2.17 kernel on both machines.
