Sorry, but my experience shows that this fails in some cases.  I don't
know why, but strace was incapable of following the build of the
debian-policy package when debiandoc2html and various other commands
were used.

Also, in general, I would prefer not to build as root nor to demand
that others do so if at all possible.

Given that the fakeroot package has shown how to wrap system calls,
this should not be that difficult.  (Famous last words....)
