devfsd is a userland daemon by Richard Gooch <rgooch@atnf.csiro.au>
that works with his kernel devfs patch
(http://www.atnf.csiro.au/~rgooch/linux/kernel-patches.html)

For those unfamiliar with it, devfs is a filesystem intended for use
on /dev that automates the management of /dev based on the drivers
and hardware your kernel is actually aware of.

This will be going into experimental.
