This, I could agree with. It would be interesting if someone would
make some extensive testing with shell scripts like those in our
/etc/init.d/ directory, but run with other shells than bash. I (and
I guess some other people) could benefit of, lets say, 15% speed
gain, since I administer some old 486s with 16 and 8 MB RAM. But I
doubt that even +5% is possible.

However, this is not the way to think. Processors are relatively
cheap these days, too, but we still support and adjust to Intel
80x86 and Motorola 680x0 series, which aren't even being produced!
