	Umm, I don't think this is quite a Debian thing. RMS asked for
 people to help the HURD developers package up packages as .deb
 packages, rather than .rpm packages. A few of us agreed, and shall be
 volunteering time for it.

	We are systems integrators. We have built a framework to allow
 software from multiple sources to fit in our framework, and to
 cooperate with each other. The HURD is not ver different from TeTeX,
 X11, GNOME ...

	No one is planning on merging away GNU/Linux (at least not for
 the next few years). However, the HURD is still evolving -- if they
 want to change stuff to be more closely unified with Debian, why
 should we fight that? 

	Debian GNU/Linux is quite mature compared to Debian GNU/Hurd;
 it is reasonable to expect most of the changes to occur in HURD
 packaging and standards.

	Personally, I like the ambitous nature of the HURD. I shall
 start multi booting soon.
