Well, the 'tm' bit in gnus is quite a bit of work to get to work correctly.  
I just switched from gnus to mutt, and I'm so far very pleased.  
When Gnus comes with proper _builtin_ MIME-handling, I'll try it again. The 
author of Gnus has said that it will come, but he won't do it halfway, so
it'll probably take some time.

(Of course, the optimal mail program, for me, lies somewhere between gnus
and mutt, I like both of them, but Gnus is a bit slow when handling *lots* 
of mail. I still use Gnus for news.)
