Re: Time for some Clarity (KDE, Qt, Open Source...)
[qt licence]
well all know, that the situation is not clear.
the solution is simple : ask the author whether mixing gpl and qt is ok.
kde gave a statement for their own code, that mixing with qt is fine.
in very very few parts they use other people's code, so only that parts are in
question.
the qt freee edition faq does only cover there few of the gpl.
<philosophy> if it were that way, then what is the difference between gpl and
lgpl ? result : there is no real difference. you get it ? </philosophy>
no, you don't need to answer this. we can agree, that the discussion never had
a real result. as long as everyone agrees, that the author of a code has the
final saying, we should ask him/her.

if you want to see something done, you have to do it yourself.
i bet, that people will team up with you, but you have to start it and keep
it going. and you have to be willing to do everything yourself (unless someone
helps you - which is very likely).
[linuxconf]
some people like this, some people like that.
if you can implement something, where we will gain possibilities,
without removeing others : do it, debian will accept it.
(motto : "it's good for some, and doesn't hurst anyone")
[document]
linux kongress discussion :
always ship the source format and the html version.
and add hooks to create the info files (or whatever you want) automaticaly.
(postinst : dpkg-registery add document /usr/doc/myfile.texinfo,
and a del command for the postrm. for now, that script can be
#!/bin/sh
exit 0

i wonder why noone reads /proc/pci to find out what grafik card is found...

ok, debian will give you thejob of the "master x11 designer", and you will
design a default config file for every windowmanager, ok ?
till now, nobody did a decent default config ("some people will always hate
it"), but you can give your bests, and implement or ignor comments as you
wish. (i hope that at least 51% of our uses will like it :-).
i would realy like, if i not had to bring a disk with my fvwm2rc to every
debian installation ...
>Now does Debian have the same goals?
debian doesn't have much goal. you should have a goal and implement it.
read: code is your statement. discussion mails are hot air.

write patches, submit them to the bug reporting system,
document what you have done.
