Re: Bug#3199: Bizarre message from debian-devel-request@lists.debian.org

I looked through /var/list/.etc/rc.request (the Smartlist config file for
request message processing) and tweaked a regular expression which tries
to catch various misspellings of "unsubscription". Here's the diff
results:

tcsh# diff rc.request rc.request~
100c100
< ((un)(sub?)?s(cr|c|r)i|\
---
> ((un|de)(sub?)?s(cr|c|r)i|\

It may not be perfect, as connotations of desubscribe may get through to
the list or otherwise not be processed as unsubscriptions, but the regexp
was catching "description" as a mutated form of unsubscription, and that's
a word which I would expect to see in a bug report.

I'll leave the decision on how to modify the Debian package (or pass along
to the upstream maintainers, if any) with the above patch (or better
versions of it).

I hereby close this bug.

A brief look at the smartlist scripts shows that it tries to be a
little too inteligent. It will recognize de-scription the opposite of
sub-scription as well as trying to find messages that should have been
sent to the request address instead of the submition address.

I'll have to learn some more about procmail, which smartlist is based on,
before i dare modify it.
